🌾 Farm Update: New Fences, Fall Vibes & Feathery Dreams

We finally finished the fencing on the lower field this week — and it looks AMAZING! Before, we just had a simple electric line up to keep Rowan from making a break for it (which, let’s be honest, he did a couple of times šŸ˜…). It wasn’t exactly Pinterest-worthy — too low, definitely not straight, and once the snow hit, the drifts piled high enough to make it basically useless.

So, I started researching better options. I didn’t want traditional wood posts — too pricey, too slow, too many things can go wrong, and too many blisters waiting to happen. Then I discovered Cameo fencing, and oh my goodness, game. changer. The material is nearly indestructible but flexible. If a tree falls on it or a horse rolls too close, it bends instead of breaking or causing a horse to get stuck— way safer and smarter. We used wood posts on the corners, capped T-posts for the rest, and kept the top line electric just to remind Rowan that the grass really isn’t greener on the other side.

It looks so clean and professional now — and I even have leftover fencing! Naturally, that means I’m already out there with my coffee and measuring tape, mapping out our future arena. Because if you’re not adding to your project list, are you even living the farm life? šŸ˜‰

The Garden's Farewell

The garden is starting to die off with the first few frosts here in Montana — except for the weeds; they always thrive! But with the growing season winding down, Cody and I are ready for it. This summer has been non-stop: my sister’s bachelorette party, bridal shower, wedding, multiple family visits, and a booming business… I don’t think I’ve had a single full day to just sit.

I told Cody this morning that I’d love two full weeks of doing nothing but sleeping, reading, and hanging out at home. Maybe I’ll actually make that happen someday. But with the holidays speeding toward us, I have a feeling we’ll be running full throttle until New Year’s.

Embracing the Fall Spirit

I did sneak in a little seasonal spirit, though — our TV mantel is decked out with fall and Halloween decorations, and the trees are just starting to hint at their color change. I love summer, but honestly? The cooler weather, fewer flies, and no more endless weeding sound heavenly.

Upcoming Projects

Next up on the project list: a new chicken coop in the lower field! The hens will finally get a big, secure fenced-in area — far away from any naughty neighborhood dogs — and hopefully stop wandering into places they shouldn’t be.

I’ve been having actual dreams about chasing rogue chickens across the neighbor’s yard (and yes, jumping the fence to rescue them šŸ”šŸ˜‚). So I think it’s safe to say the new coop has officially moved to the top of the to-do list.šŸ˜…

not mine.. but i can wish!
